Personal Development....
The Foundation of all Success: Personal, Professional and Organizational |
| The new millennium has brought with it
a deeper and more meaningful understanding of what drives success
in the business world: success as an employee, a manager, a corporate
leader or a business owner. It is the understanding that only
by helping an individual develop on
a personal level first, can he/she
develop and succeed on a professional
level. |
The Facts:
- Studies at Bell Labs, the world famous "think
tank" in Princeton, NJ have concluded that the difference between
average employees and "superstars" can be attributed not to
skills training or intellectual IQ but to the individual's emotional
IQ.
- A study by renowned executive search firm, Egan Zehnder
International found that of 515 senior executives, the major determinant
of success was emotional intelligence, not previous experience or IQ.
- In a study done by James Kouzes and Barry Posner,
authors of the "Leadership Challenge," 75,000 people were
asked what qualities they most admire and look for in a leader. The
top qualities the respondents gave were honesty, forward looking, competent,
and inspiring.
- Business author, Daniel Goleman, reports in his book, "Emotional
Intelligence" that among a group of business managers who were found
to rank the highest in emotional competence, 87% were the top one-third
of their companies' highest performers, outpacing their peers in performance
and salary bonuses.
|
| In conclusion, emotional
intelligence - which encompasses a broad range of interpersonal
skills, self-motivation, self-awareness, and socialization skills
- is a much more accurate predictor of success than academic
intelligence, skills training, background or prior work experience. |
| Designs To Grow is on
the leading edge of the movement to position personal development
as the critical foundation of any business' training or leadership
development program. |
